We made it back to the hotel around 6:30 and since we didn’t have lunch until late, we were only a little hungry. Dad offered to take the boys downstairs in the hotel for dinner, while Grammie and Emmy opted for no dinner, so Steve and I headed out to find this strip of snack vendors that we had seen driving in. Steve’s curiosity about this area was peaked when our guide told us this little place came alive each night for people to buy “snack” food – not our idea of snacks like Fritos and French fries – but things like scorpions on a stick or sheep penis. The guide said he was afraid of the scorpions, but Stevie was not. So after a perusal of all the delicacies including starfish, sea horse, dog, snake and a variety of bugs, we made our selections.
First Stevie started with a centipede…
Believe it or not – I tried it too! It was hideous! Bleck!
Then he tried a water bug (he shared his scorpion with a girl from England so he could try her water bugs).
Then we tried scorpion – well, I just tried a leg, Stevie ate the whole thing. Crunchy, like potato chips.
Then I opted for a safe one – fried pumpkin – while Stevie had snake skin (no good). How’s that for submerging ourselves in the culture????
